More about being a Dog Foster for SHAID!
Our foster families are the heart of SHAID Tree Animal Shelter – we can only save as many animals as we have safe, loving homes for them to stay in. Fostering can be both rewarding and challenging. As a foster, you provide the care, comfort, and healing space they need to recover and prepare for their future adoptive homes.
We work hard to match each foster home with an animal suited to their lifestyle and household – whether that involves kids, other pets, or no fenced yard. Foster animals stay in your care until they are fully vetted, healthy, and ready to be adopted. SHAID provides food, medical care, supplies (including crate, collar, and leash), and ongoing support. You provide the love, routine, safety, and socialization that prepares them for their forever homes.
Foster families help promote their animals by sharing photos, writing a short bio, and – when possible – attending local events. They may also speak with potential adopters and help coordinate meet-and-greets. Every animal stays in SHAID’s care for a minimum of two weeks, though some may take longer to rehabilitate and adopt out.
Fostering takes time, commitment, and heart. If you’re ready to join our lifesaving efforts, please complete the Foster Application above and read the Foster Contract.
Please Note:
All current pets in the foster home must be spayed/neutered and up to date on vaccinations. SHAID will confirm vetting during the approval process.
All children in the home must be 8 years of age or older.
