ACCIDENTAL PREGNANCY PROGRAM
SHAID Animal Shelter’s Accidental Pregnancy Program (APP) helps prevent future feline overpopulation by supporting owners of unexpectedly pregnant cats through a compassionate, structured program. Instead of surrendering the mother and kittens to the shelter, families are supported in caring for them at home during the nursing period, helping SHAID maintain capacity for animals in urgent need.

Participating owners receive guidance, veterinary support, and access to resources such as kitten food, litter, and nesting supplies when needed. In return, owners agree to keep the family together until the kittens are old enough for adoption, follow SHAID’s care timelines, and ensure the mother cat is spayed after weaning through the program’s subsidized spay initiative.

The program also helps place kittens into safe, vetted homes after they receive their first vaccinations, ensuring every participating family contributes to reducing future overpopulation through a guaranteed sterilization.
